Boyfriend Debate, Black Lives Matter, Marxism, Terry Crews, & I Address My Haters
You're going to want to read to the end of this one.
Hey everyone,
If you only read one thing I write this week, make it this piece I penned breaking down the controversy over Black Lives Matter’s ties to Marxism. (Spoiler alert: Neither side gets this right).
On the bright side, I’m a happy camper this week because my pool reopened! It’s outdoor and a big country-club-style layout so we can all spread out and sunbathe and maintain distance. It’s a huge relief to have it back open in the 100+ degree D.C. heat we’ve been getting lately.
Oh, and in a very exciting development, I’m getting my first haircut today (in about 20 minutes, actually) in almost 6 months. I’ll be sure to post a picture on Twitter & in next week’s newsletter.
Plus, can you solve a debate between me and the boyfriend? Which kind of dog is better: Small and floofy (my wisdom) or big and non-floofy (his wrong opinion)? Let me know in the comments/replies.
Meme:
Food Take: For my boyfriend’s birthday, we ordered out (not open for dine-in) from a Michelin star restaurant and got a giant steak to share. He was very happy. Sadly, I was forced in act of cruelty to eat it medium rare and was not permitted ketchup…
So I reiterate: Well-done steak with ketchup is the best. That is all.

This is the mindset of a sad, intolerant individual. But we can all fall pray to this sort of vilification of ideological opponents sometime. So I call on you (and on myself: I am very much a work in progress on this) to try to afford people you disagree with — even on things you are very passionate about — with the basic courtesy that they might just be wrong, not evil or [insert type of bigotry here]. And try to avoid ad-hominem.
More importantly, try to make a rule that you wouldn’t say anything online you wouldn’t say to someone’s face, as it clearly true for this individual. Being a nasty keyboard warrior is a sad and ultimately unfulfilling way to live your life.
