Deportation, Gay Marriage, Dem Debates & Guess What I Spent $700 On?
Hey everyone,
Good morning!
The Weekly Brad is coming at you at a new time, mixing things up in time for your morning commute.
On a personal note this week, I just wanted to say how happy and blessed I am here at my new job at the Examiner, and living here in D.C.
As I tweeted:
Thank you all so much for being a part of it.
It's going to be a wild, wild week with the Democratic debates, but here's what I came up with BEFORE the shit show:
Disgraceful Virginia Republicans attempt to censure a conservative congressman for officiating a gay wedding
Rep. Denver Riggleman married two men in a lovely ceremony a few weeks ago. This week, a few shameful Virginia officials tried to sanction him for it. Read more.
New U.S. Soccer fact sheet eviscerates 'equal pay' narrative
Uh... new data shows that the U.S. Women's National Soccer Team are actually paid MORE than the men by U.S. soccer. So much for that 'equal pay' lawsuit, eh? Read more.
Trump's wrong-headed move on 'fast-track' deportations threatens due process
The Trump administration, disturbingly, just moved to deport more people without even granting them an appearance before an immigration judge. Enforcing the law is important, but so is due process. Read more.
My Democratic debate hot takes:
Elizabeth Warren lit up the stage from the BEGINNING, calling President Trump a "disgrace to the office," but she doesn't have a leg to stand on -- she's been embarrassing Massachusetts in the Senate for years
Governor Hickenlooper had a good night, and made a good point when he said that socialism would "FedEx the election to President Trump"
Check out my (embarrassingly lengthy) live-tweet thread from the night
BONUS BRAD: I AM GOING TO BE THIS CLOSE TO SHAWN MENDES!!!! Bought concert tickets for my sister and I in early August.... no, I don't regret spending the $700.
