Free college, John Bolton, GoT, my latest speaking gig, and I get pushed out of gay soccer league
Hey everyone,
I hope you're all having a great week!
I had a busy but very memorable weekend, after I traveled back to my alma mater, UMass Amherst, to visit friends from college and serve as a judge for my former UMass Mock Trial Team teammates at their annual tournament. It was great to catch up with old friends and be back on campus. At the same time, it feels like I've aged 10 years in just the 9 months since I graduated. Looking around UMass again was almost surreal.
I'm glad to back, though, back hard at work and back in town to see the boyfriend. I think I mentioned that we're currently watching HBO's Game of Thrones... and last night I had to explain to him why Cersei is my favorite character. "She's evil! A liar!" he objected. Um... yes... that's the point. It's what makes her the evil queen :) that we stan.
In a really cool development, I spoke Tuesday evening at a George Washington University College Republicans event on LGBT issues and future of the Republican Party. It was an honor, and the event went great! Read till the end to see a picture. Oh, and if you're interested in having me speak on your campus or to your club/group, just reach out!
In some slightly sad news, you might have noticed that I no longer talk about the gay soccer league I was playing in. That's because I was excommunicated and mobbed out of the club due to their dislike of who I am and what I believe (despite me not bringing up politics, ever). I write about this experience in a new essay for the web magazine Quillette, which you can read here.
Meme of the week:
Food take: I stated the simple fact that I don't like Trader Joe's, and for some reason that made Twitter very, very mad. Sorry not sorry, I just think it's pretentious and basic.
Elizabeth Warren misunderstands what's causing the college affordability crisis
The 2020 Democrat and my former senator has all sorts of plans to make college affordable again. But she overlooks and ignores two of the biggest reasons it got so outrageously expensive in the first place. Read more.
CNN just rigged its New Hampshire town halls by excluding Tulsi Gabbard
On the basis of polling, Gabbard should have been included over 3 of the candidates they invited. The fix is in, folks. Read more.
John Bolton has every ideological reason to sabotage Trump
I agree that Bolton must testify in order for the Senate impeachment trial to proceed fairly. But don't mistake him for a neutral witness, as the uber-hawk has every ideological incentive to sabotage Trump and anti-war Republicans. Read more.
Trump's 'public charge' rule was foolish to begin with
The Supreme Court just upheld a controversial Trump immigration policy barring immigrants who officials guess might end up on welfare. The law aside, I explain why the policy itself doesn't make sense. Read more.
